Beschreibung:

Designer of both the Swallow ‘Gadabout’ and the Swallow ‘Doretti’ sports-car, the late Frank Rainbow was asked to draw a successor to the ‘Gadabout’. He constructed the ‘Joyrider’ prototype from ‘531’ tubing and alloy, using a Villiers 1F two-speed engine unit. It displayed the Rainbow flair for the unusual, the annular silencer ‘matching the flywheel magneto on the other side. With the engine placed low and well forward and the tank under the tilting seat, the small and light ‘Joyrider’ prefigured the much later Honda ‘50’ and might have been very successful. Swallow took the design but, in the event, ceased vehicle production with the demise of the excellent ‘Doretti’, killed off by factional in-fighting in the motor industry. Frank Rainbow then registered the little machine as 200 FRE in Staffordshire, the number it still wears. The Joyrider is finished in its original eau-de-nil green and remains completely as built. The engine unit is running well, thought he front rim could use a re-chrome. It is rare for any prototype to be available for sale, the mortality rate for experimental vehicles being high. A V5, old log-book signed by the designer and historical material come with this unique motor cycle.
