Zweig, Stefan TWO AUTOGRAPH LETTERS SIGNED AND SEVEN TYPED LETTERS SIGNED ("STEFAN ZWEIG"), THE MAJORITY IN FRENCH, TO ANTONIO AITA noting that he likes reading Spanish but writes it very badly, discussing Argentine literature, observing that virtually nothing has been translated, stating that what Argentina appeals to him more than North America, observing that, if he came to Argentina he would not like to stay only in Buenos Aires, as the majority of travellers do, but would like to travel within the country, outlining travel and conference arrangements, pointing out that he does not like making speeches or toasts, and detests being the centre of attention, explaining that it is his passion to stroll about a city, to go into the small shops alone or with a friend, and to watch rather than be watched, referring to his book about Magellan, inspired by his [1936] visit to South America, mentioning events in Austria, commenting that he can hardly do any work on account of letters he has received with requests for help in emigrating from Germany and Austria, and confessing that there is nothing more depressing than having to reply that he is himself powerless and unable to help ...Je vous avoue que je déteste d'être en devant ou au milieu que ce soit. Je n'aime pas faire des discours, des toasts, et je laisse ça aux autres qui aiment beaucoup à la faire. Et je ne voudrais assister à des dîners dans les maisons privées et seulement à ceux des dîners officiels qui sont indispensables. Ma passion est de flâner dans une ville, aller seul ou avec un ami dans de petites boutiques et de regarder plûtot que d'être regardé... together with: a letter written by Friderike Zweig and signed by Zweig, an autograph postcard by Friderike Zweig, signed ("Frederique Stefan Zweig"), both to Aita, and a telegram by Zweig, in Spanish, dated 15 September 1936 18 pages in all, various sizes, three letters on stationery printed with Zweig's Salzburg address and his monogram, three on stationery printed with Zweig's London address, the postcard showing Zweig's Salzburg home, Kapuzinerberg 5, three typed letters with autograph additions, Salzburg, London and elsewhere, 1932-1940, some small tears to the letter of 19 September 1940, the telegram creased and torn (12)
