Wooden printing block with the Hebrew inscription, "For the Commandment is a Lamp and the Teaching a Light". Italy (Livorno?), [1841]. Carved wood; ink on paper. Wooden printing block with the Hebrew inscription "For the Commandment is a Lamp and the Teaching a Light" in stylized letters, with a pair of ornaments. This printing block was used to print a leaf with the Hanukkah blessings and the psalm "A Song at the dedication of the Temple" in Italy (probably Livorno) in 1841. A copy of the leaf is enclosed. Block: 27.5X9 cm. Fair condition. Extensive worming. Suspension loop. Enclosed in fine box. Leaf: approx. 30X40 cm. Fair-poor condition. Many stains and tears, with damage to text and missing pieces, professionally restored.
