Title: WITHDRAWN - Requiem For a Nun - rare variant binding Author: Faulkner, William Place: New York Publisher: Random House Date: [1951] Description: WITHDRAWN. (8vo) original green and black cloth with gilt title, pictorial jacket. First Trade Edition. Rare variant binding in a slightly darker green cloth, glossy black cloth backstrip, bound without headband, and with the top edge unstained. Peter Howard in his catalog of the Carl Peterson collection, describes this variant as "decidedly uncommon, so much so that one is tempted to suggest it is a trial binding, and so would precede the regular trade issue. However, it may just as well be either an advance review copy or a remainder issue." The artist E. McKnight Kauffer is incorrectly identified as "M. McKnight Kauffer" on front flap of jacket. Faulkner's first book after receiving the Nobel Prize for literature. Peterson A28b; Howard A32.1b.2. Lot Amendments Condition: Jacket spine faded, price-clipped, small chips and short tears to edges, one small tape repair on reverse; light wear to volume; very good. Item number: 263919
