WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (1874-1965) The Second World War, London, Cassell & Co., 1950-1949-1954 together 6 vols., 8°, volume I: third edition, volumes II-VI first or second English trade editions, PRESENTATION COPY, front free endpaper of volume I signed and inscribed: "To Edward Drewett Martell from Winston S. Churchill. 1955," the other volumes all signed and inscribed: "From Winston S. Churchill, 1955," folding plates and maps, some coloured, uniformly bound in ornate red morocco gilt by Bumpus, g.e. [Woods A123b]. Edward Martell was a trustee on the committee for "The Winston Churchill Birthday Trust," and was presented with this work by Churchill after having organised the 80th Birthday Fund to which the public donated over half a million pounds. A facsimile letter from Churchill is also inserted in one of the volumes. (6)
