Wing Commander Guy Gibson VC, DFC (1918-1944). A WWII Observer's and Gunner's Flying Log Book kept by Flight Lieutenant Brian E Sutton, 106 and 199 Squadron, the log book signed 8 times by his commanding officer Guy Gibson Commencing 1 October 1941, last entry 8 July 1945, Sutton flew 52 operations in total and the log book bears 8 signatures by Guy Gibson on 29 April 1942, 30 May 1942, 25 June 1942, 31 July 1942, 31 August 1942, 26 September 1942, 28 November 1942, 22 December 1942, particular operations to note are 2 October Kreffield Bombs D.N.C.O. (recalled and crashed at Newton, minor injuries only received, A/C burnt out!), 5 June 1944, special duties "Operations - R.C.M. as Detailed ("D" Day), a handwritten letter accompanies the lot written by Sutton (Qty: 1) The letter from Flight Lieutenant Brian Sutton reads as follows, 'I flew on operations on 106 Squadron commanded by Wingco Guy Gibson at Coningsby Lincs commencing in April 1942 flying in Manchesters. We converted to Lancasters in time for the first 1000 bomber raid on Cologne. I left "106" Squadron which was then at Syeston Notts. I was awarded the Air Crew Europe Star, then after instructing at various drones I went back on operations for a second tour on 199 Squadron on Special Duties in time for D Day. From North Creake, Norfolk. After finishing my second tour, I was awarded a bar to the Air Crew Europe Star. For the D Day landings, we were airborne for 7.5 hours using radar jamming sets to keep the Luftwaffe away from Normandy, and luckily for the invasion forces it worked.'
