6mm, 28" barrel, S/N 5923. Blued finish, semi-pistol gripped plain walnut stock. Top of receiver marked -U.S.N.- / ANCHOR / No 5923 / N.C.T., receiver with usual two line Winchester markings on left side. Sling swivels, stacking swivel, two barrel bands. Includes knife bayonet in leather scabbard marked with T in a triangle on the ricasso. 10,000 of these rifles were ordered for use by the Navy and Marine Corps in 1898, and another 5,000 were ordered the following year. This was the primary battle rifle of the US sea services until replaced by the Krag rifle, and the Lee Navy saw use during the Spanish American War, the Philippine Insurrection and the Boxer Rebellion. Condition: Very good. Retains some blue, the rest a smoky gray patina. Good bore, dark and dirty, mechanically functional. Stock good with some old added finish, a repaired crack in the hand guard and scattered dings and mars. Bayonet and scabbard good to very good.
