William II of the Netherlands (1792-1849). King of the Netherlands (1840-1849). LS, a partially printed British army pay warrant, dated January 2, 1815, at Brussels, signed William, Her. Prince of Orange. William was serving as a Major-General in the British army at this point, after serving as an aide-de-camp to the Duke of Wellington and the future George IV. He became the official Prince of Orange rather than the "Hereditary Prince of Orange" two and a half months after he signed this document, upon his father's accession to the throne on March 16, 1815. Condition: Water damage; letter engrossed in paper border.
