(William Makepeace) and Charles Dickens ] The Loving Ballad of Lord Bateman, first edition, first issue with “wine” instead of “vine” line 2 stanza V p.13, half-title, 12 etched plates by George Cruikshank including page of musical notation, 8pp. advertisements at end, plates lightly offset onto text, old ink inscription on front free endpaper, triangular black roan book-label of Janet Cook Loeb, original limp pictorial green cloth, gilt, bookseller’s ticket of Myers & Co. of Holborn inside rear cover, lightly rubbed and faded, preserved in later blue cloth folder and morocco-backed slip-case, spine slightly rubbed and faded, [Cohn 243], 12mo, Charles Tilt, 1839. *** Thackeray wrote the verses which were edited by Dickens who also wrote the tongue-in-cheek scholarly notes and preface.
