(Autographs & Memorabilia | Live Online, 4th December 2020) William IV, King of England William IV, King of England Autograph letter signed ('William') by William IV when still Duke of Clarence, reading in part "I have but one observation to make which is I must either let the matter drop about the Captains of the Packets or I must seriously take up the neglect of the Post office Authorities at Harwich on the representation of the Navy and Trinity Branches", one page, integral blank, folding marks, 4to, Admiralty, 26 January 1828. ***William, George IV's brother and later King as William IV, was the last of Britain's Lord High Admirals and lasted from May 1827 to September 1828. At the time some packet boats were under Post Office control, whilst others were run by the Admiarlty. In the letter he is possibly debating the right to nominate Captains of packet boats. (Qty: 1)
