Beschreibung:

WILLIAM H. BRADLEY (1868-1962) BRADLEY: HIS BOOK / BEAUTY & THE BEAST. 1896. 19x10 inches. Condition B: faded; time-staining repaired minor tears and restored losses at edges and corner. Framed. Will Bradley's style is sometimes referred to as American Art Nouveau, a combination of Aubrey Beardsley and the work of the Arts and Crafts movement. Yet Bradley "transformed their styles into exceptionally bold and successful designs." (Word and Image p. 20). "Because of his early training as a printer, Bradley's posters are distinguished by their good taste in typography which is an integral part of the design" (Margolin p. 27). Here the artist eschews the elaborate, Arts and Crafts inspired intricacies that so often were reflected in his work and instead creates a deceptively simple, flowing design. DFP-1 173, Reims 1134, Kiehl 33.
