As Crozier himself wrote " everything I paint is the result of what I have seen. I cannot paint topographical paintings. I have to know the place and its history and its customs I want the painting to have a resonance that has as much to do with time as it has to do with appearance." The exact location of 'Yellow Strand- The Island' may be ambiguous but its intention is clear. Crozier has created an image of his inner life, a poetic conception of the world he found on his doorstep. William Crozier quoted in Eigse Carlow exhibition catalogue.
