Beschreibung:

Wilkie, Sir David, berühmter schottischer Maler, Erster Hofmaler Georgs IV. von England, schuf viele Adelsporträts und historische Genrebilder (1785-1841). Eigh. Brief m. U. "David Wilkie" sowie Adresse und Siegel. 2 S. 4to. Kensington 1.III.1838. "... The very civil manner in which it is worded, seems encouraging ... myself I am of course not commiserate with these matters, and scarcely know any one ... make out a good case 'showing the benefits Mr. Robertson's work has conferred upon all navigators', as Capt. B suggests ... If Captain King would be induced to bear his testimony to this, he might do you a great service, if it so happens that his experience as a practical man has made him acquainted with the fact of the service rendered. Perhaps he as an officer of distinction in the Navy might be able to put it in the proper train [?] to be presented in the proper quarter ...".
