First published appearance of the novel in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine, this the English issue. Later wrappers with manuscript label, marbled edges. 8 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches (22.5 x 15 cm); without printed wrappers or general title, the story paginated from 3-100 and with the remainder of the volume paginated through 162, lacks ads. The first leaf with a small stain and slightly toned, the wrappers chipped, thumbsoiled and splitting along upper joint with tissue repair to verso, this volume with the 1925 receipt and bookplate of the Rochester, N.Y. book dealer B.H. Leffingwell, also with the bookplate of Jon Weekly depicting Wilde. The English issue of Lippincott's Monthly Magazine July 1890 is considerably less common than the American issue and The Picture of Dorian Gray is presented in full in thirteen chapters. The story was published in book form the following year with Wilde adding several additional chapters. Mason 81. C
