WHITMAN, Walt. Leaves of Grass . Boston, 1881-2. Seventh edition, second printing (of three), generally known as the "supressed Boston edition." Inscribed to Horace Traubel, one of Whitman's three literary executors, by Ellen M. Calder in 1901 (she was the widow of Whitman friend and advocate William Douglas O'Connor and a woman who formed a close relationship with the poet). Fine copy. -- Leaves of Grass . Philadelphia, 1891-2. (Front inner hinges broken, front free endpaper detached.) Ninth edition ("Deathbed Edition"), printing 2, binding C. CLARENCE DARROW'S COPY, inscribed to him by an Illinois friend in 1894 and with his bookplate. -- Leaves of Grass . New York, 1867. Contemporary calf (worn). Fourth edition. JOHN ADDINGTON SYMONDS' COPY, inscribed to him on title-page by Moncure Conway (Whitman friend and promoter) and with front panel of an envelope addressed in Whitman's hand to Symonds pasted to inside front cover; with pencilled annotations on rear flyleaves and on several pages presumably in Symonds' hand. -- Leaves of Grass . Contemporary green calf, t.e.g. Inscribed to the English publisher John Lane by David McKay, Whitman's Philadelphia publisher. -- November Boughs . Philadelphia, 1888. Green cloth, bevelled edges, t.e.g. (front inner hinge broken). First edition, third printing, one of 400 large-paper copies probably done by the executors in 1891. Inscribed by Thomas B. Harned, one of Whitman's three literary executors. -- Gems from Walt Whitman. Selected by Elizabeth Porter Gould. Philadelphia, 1889. (Front hinge tender.) JOHN GREENLEAF WHITTIER'S COPY, inscribed to him by Gould and with a one-line quote from a Whitman poem written in by Whittier (apparently) on p.28; later inscribed by noted Yankee bookseller Charles Goodspeed to Whitman specialist dealer and bibliographer Alfred Goldsmith. -- The Eighteenth Presidency . [Montpellier, France, 1928.] Wrappers (spine area faded). The critic MALCOLM COWLEY'S COPY, inscribed to him by the pamphlet's editor Jean Catel. Together 8 volumes, 8 o, original bindings, except as indicated. FIRST EDITIONS, unless otherwise noted, ALL ASSOCIATION COPIES. See BAL for edition and issue points, etc. (8)
