Whisky.- Scotland.- Jacobites.- Act of Parliament Anent the Excyse of Ferrintosh, broadside, 274 x 188mm., lightly browned, some light spotting / marking, [Wing S1122A], [Edinburgh], no printer, [1695]. ⁂ A rare broadside act relating to the distillery on the Ferintosh Estate. ESTC locates only 4 copies (2 of which at Nat. Lib. of Scotland, the others at National Archives and in the US at Huntington). During the 1688 Glorious Revolution Duncan Forbes, the owner of the Ferintosh Estate, was a prominent supporter of the new regime and so his distillery was destroyed by the Jacobites. In recompense for this he was granted the right to distil whisky in Ferintosh without being subject to the normal excise regulations. In the 1760s his grandson John Forbes enlarged the existing distillery and built three more.
