Unknown photograph: “What about Viet Nam?”. An original black-and-white American press photograph showing President John F. Kennedy (1917–1963) in the Oval Office in the company of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, general Maxwell Taylor (1901–1987) and the Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara (1916–2009) on September 23rd 1963. The topic discussed is the growing crisis - and escalating war - in Vietnam. Back with publication date (September 24th 1963) and United Press International stamp. Photo size 21×16 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm. In early 1963 the South Vietnamese forces led a severe defeat in their fight against the Viet Cong. This only added to the pressure resting on the Kennedy Administration, which had inherited the conflict in South East Asia from President Eisenhower. At this point the Americans still mantained that there were no US combat troops on Vietnamese soil, only advisers. No less than 16,000 actually!
This is an original American black-and-white press photograph from 1963, which has a slightly yellowed back. No further remarks.
