New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1909. 8vo. Publisher's ribbed green cloth, title within gilt cartouche on upper cover, spine lettered gilt, top edge gilt; minor losses to spine ends, light foxing to endpapers. First edition, inscribed in the month of publication on front free endpaper: "To | Carl Snyder. | From his friend E. W. | April 1909. Snyder was an oceanographer whom Wharton knew in Lenox. Garrison A17.1.a. — A Backward Glance. New York & London: D. Appleton-Century Company, 1934. 8vo. Publisher's dark blue cloth, upper cover stamped in gilt with facsimile of author's signature, spine lettered gilt, pale yellow endpapers; notes written and mounted on front pastedown, upper hinge cracking, pencil notes and erasures on lower endpapers, dust-jacket not present. First edition, inscribed on the front free endpaper in French: "Petit voyage préhistorique | pour mon ami St André | E. W. | Mai 1934." Alfred de St. André was a member of Wharton's French circle, who, according to the note on the pastedown, "was a valued guide to little-known parts of Paris." Garrison A47.1.a. — Ethan Frome.
