Footnotes The Elamites were one of the leading political forces of the ancient Near East, breaking away from the control of the Mesopotamian city of Ur they established a kingdom based at the city of Susa. The art was influenced to some degree by the powerful city states of Mesopotamia, such as Babylon and Uruk, and is focused primarily upon animal and abstract designs. Representations of humans tend to be on reliefs and show a certain amount of influence from the Hurrian kingdom in Anatolia and northern Mesopotamia.
