WELLINGTON, Arthur Wellesley, Duke of. Autograph letter signed ("Wellington") to Sir Charles Stuart Brussels, 22 April 1815. 1½ pages, 4to, in fine condition, framed. WELLINGTON BEFORE WATERLOO. A fine letter in which Wellington comments on European affairs shortly before Napoleon's return to France and the Battle of Waterloo. He writes: "all sense of morality & justice, and all ideas of honour excepting of that which is more properly called courage...have been replaced by the stupidest, grossest & lowest order of selfishness...The French by their revolutions & their military operations have certainly ruined the world; but I must say that bad as is the situation of other countries their own is...worse." -- WELLINGTON. Engraved document signed ("Wellington"), Paris, 18 October 1814. 1 p., folio, accomplished in manuscript, in French, some separation of folds , framed. A pass for James Hussard of the 10th Regiment.
