London: Printed by Matth. Simmons for John Rothwell, 1645. A-B4 C2. [2], 18 pp. 4to (180 x 134 mm). 19th or early 20th century gilt-ruled speckled calf by P.B. Sanford. Some pagination and headlines just shaved, pale foxing to final two leaves. FIRST EDITION OF THE LAST WORK OF THIS PURITANICAL DIVINE, ONE OF THE COMPILERS OF THE BAY PSALM BOOK. STREETER COPY. The author is identified as Welde by Henry M. Dexter in Congregationalism of the Last Three Hundred Years, 1880. Welde writes to mollify the nonconformist English supporters of the Bay Colony who were distressed by the expulsion of Anne Hutchinson. Sabin 52617; Streeter sale 624; Wing W1262. Provenance: bookplate of Rev. Dr. Roderick Terry, sold in his sale in 1934; booklabel of Thomas W. Streeter, in his sale; Adrian Van Sinderen.
