London: William Rawlins and Samuel Roycroft, 1703. 2 o (320 x 194 mm). Engraved portrait frontispiece of Littleton, folding table of consanguinities (clean tear). (Some pale browning and spotting.) Contemporary English panelled calf (rebacked, corners repaired). Provenance : Numerous notes in a large English 18th-century hand; Daniel Webster, a few brief notes in ink "very beautiful" (fol.4 recto), "includeth" (fol.10 recto), "purchasers" (fol.19 verso), etc. Inside front cover with long note: "Daniel Webster used this vol. when reading Law. It was purchased of Ezekiel Webster...by Samuel Fletcher of Concord...etc. Sold as an association copy, not subject to return. DANIEL WEBSTER'S COPY. After attending Phillips Exeter Academy in 1796, Webster attended Dartmouth College and, after graduating, began the study of law in the office of Thomas W. Thompson in Salisbury, applying himself to the foundation legal treatises of Blackstone, Vattel, Robertson and, evidently, Coke on Littleton. He was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in March 1805.
