Half title, coloured frontispiece by Kathleen Hale title printed in blue and black. Original pictorial blue buckram gilt, t.e.g. (Some light staining mainly at edges). FIRST EDITION, LIMITED TO 750 COPIES, PRESENTATION COPY, the limitation leaf inscribed, "for Pamela Onslow, Christmas 1963, from Evelyn Waugh." Pamela Onslow was the vendor's mother and Auberon Waugh's mother-in-law. Also included in the lot are 3 books by Auberon Waugh, Path of Dalliance (London, 1963), Who are the Violets Now? (London, 1965) and In the Lion's Den. Fifty Essays (London, 1978), each a presentation copy to Pamela Onslow (the second inscribed "For Pamela, who thought of the title, with love from Bron, who wishes he could have written a story worthy of it.")
