The Life of George Washington, Commander in Chief of the American Forces...and First President of the United States, London: Richard Phillips l804-07. 5 vols., 4to, half dark red morocco gilt, spines gilt with floral tools in five compartments, gilt-lettered in two others, g.e., by Howell of Liverpool, the folding maps backed (backing now discolored, the maps unaffected, minor text browning, the subscriber's list (issued as part of the atlas) discarded by the binder as usual when the maps were bound in. First London edition, frontispiece portrait, l0 folding maps, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH THE INSERTION OF 66 PRINTS, MAPS, VIEWS AND PLANS, some of which double-page, some hand-colored. The publisher's series of l0 large folding maps, specially engraved for the book, includes maps of "Boston and its Environs," "Part of Rhode Island...at the Siege of Newport," a map of the Hudson from Harlem to Haverstraw Bay, "Plan of New York Island" (showing the Battle of Long Island), "A Map of those Parts of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina & Georgia," "Plan of the Northern Part of New Jersey," and others, most derived from the earlier maps of John Faden, but with noticeable differences. Sabin 44788. Sold as an extra-illustrated work, not subect to return.
