Photographer: W. Weis, Vienna . Portrait of Bruno Walter. 1912. Vintage, sepia-toned, matte gelatin silver print. 20,5 x 15,5 cm. Signed, dedicated and dated by Bruno Walter in ink in lower portion of image, mounted to original studio board (some traces of use, dusty) with photographer's name, address Vienna. This portrait was taken in 1912 in Vienna where Bruno Walter had an engagement at the Vienna Opera house. From 1913 - 1922 he conducted at the opera in Munich where Thomas Mann defended him against anti-Semitic attacks. In 1933 he emigrated to Switzerland and France and finally to the USA in 1939, where he worked as a conductor for the Los Angeles Philarmonic Orchestra. Among the circa 1500 musicians who emigrated from Europe, Walter was the most famous. – A few light scuff/soil marks, otherwise in very good condition.
