Engraved portrait frontispiece of Mary Countess Dowager of Warwick. Bound in contemporary full panelled calf. Covers framed by double gilt fillets enclosing in the centre a central gilt panel with outer fleurons. all edges gilt. A fine copy. ESTC R233189 locates 8 copies only. This is a well named book since the major part of it is given over to the writings of the Countess of Warwick with the front text, a funeral sermon by Anthony Walker delivered at Fyfield in Essex, April 30. 1678. There is no cross reference in Wing to the Countess where it is listed under Walker. The first and only Wing printing under this title - W 301. Mary was one of seven daughters to live to marital status, of Richard, the 1st Earl of Cork (q.v.) and a sister to Robert and Roger Boyle (q.v.). She married for love, not money, her choice falling on the impecunious Charles Rich, the 4th earl of Warwick, and her house became a popular resort for puritan divines. The three texts by her are �Rules for a holy Life�; �Occasional meditations upon sundry subjects�; and �Pious reflections upon several scriptures�. Her portrait is prefixed. Sweeney 5459.1.
