Walasse Ting (Chinese/American, 1929-2010) Milky Way, 1966 Titled, signed, and dated "...Ting 66" on the reverse. Acrylic on canvas, 63 1/2 x 72 1/2 in. (161.3 x 184.2 cm), framed. Condition: Very minor surface dust. Provenance: Purchased from the artist. N.B. Walasse Ting was committed to Abstract Expressionism well beyond its heyday, and created a uniquely lighthearted version of it. His use of DayGlo colors and luscious subjects were joyful and life-affirming, and presented a more innocent picture of the world than his close friends Karel Appel and Pierre Alechinsky Ting's world was one of life's simple pleasures and natural wonders--a summer rainstorm, a field of flowers, or constellations in the sky--such as in the present work.
