Frontispiece, pp. [including titlepage] 359, 1 b., 20 plates o. t.; frontispiece, pp. [4, including titlepage], 302, 2 b., 49 plates o. t.; frontispiece, pp. [4, including titlepage], 266, [30], 45 plates o. t. A total of: 4 Frontispieces and 154 plates engraved on copper out text, a lot of them are folded, which one 2 geographic maps of Italy. Bookplate on the insidecovers: Bibliothèque du Château De Menneval. On the second and third titlepages a paper label under the title with the right indication of the number of volume, little damages on spine-end, inside good condition.
Nice edition, illustrated, accented and correct, of this important guide of Italy. The work, accompanied by an imposing iconographic apparatus, is one of the best travel books published in the eighteenth century. The tables, most of which are folded, depict city plants, prospective views, monuments, church interiors, festive scenes. Among the monuments are those of ancient Rome; among the descriptions of parties, particularly scenic those depicting the naval games and the Carnival of Venice. The two folded geographic maps, placed at the beginning of the first volume, relate to ancient Italy and modern Italy. Cremonini 65. The lot is offered with a valid license.
