Beschreibung:

VON FAULHABER MICHAEL CARDINAL RITTER: (1869-1952) German Catholic Prelate who served as Archbishop of Munich (1917-52) during World War II. Von Faulhaber ordained Joseph Ratzinger (the future Pope Benedict XVI) as a priest in 1951 and was the last surviving Cardinal appointed by Pope Benedict XV. Vintage signed colour postcard by Von Faulhaber, the image being a reproduction of a painting of the Cardinal in a half length pose. Signed ('+ M. Card. Faulhaber') in bold pencil to the verso and dated Speyer, 16th August 1925 in his hand. With a facsimile signature to the lower white border of the recto. Together with Lorenz Jaeger (1892-1975) German Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, Archbishop of Paderborn 1941-73. Signed colour 4 x 6 postcard photograph of the Cardinal in a semi-profile head and shoulders pose. Signed ('+ Lorenz Card. Jaeger') in bold black ink with his name alone to the verso. Also including Theodor Innitzer (1875-1955) Austro-Hungarian Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, Archbishop of Vienna 1932-55. In April 1938, at the time of Adolf Hitler's birthday, Innitzer delivered a sermon in which he declared 'we must confess our faith in our Fuhrer, for there is just one Fuhrer: Jesus Christ'. This greatly angered the Nazi leaders and the following day Innitzer's residence was ransacked. Ink signature ('+ Th Kard. Innitzer') and a few additional words in his hand, including the date 27th March 1934, on a plain postcard with a newspaper portrait of the Cardinal neatly affixed above the signature. G to about
