Poleni's preparatory work for his unfinished edition of Vitruvius is nonetheless "the first scientific study of an architectural text published after the great 'renaissance season'...an examination of the publishing history of Vitruvius, starting with the editio princes by Giovanni Sulpizio in 1486" (Millard). Containing Poleni's correspondence with Giovanni Batista Morgagni (1682-1771), and reprinting Bernadino Baldi's (1553-1617) life of Vitruvius, first published in 1612.
