Woodcut initials, decorations, illustrations, some full-page, and two folding plates. (Rust-hole on 2F4, tear crossing image on 2O4, 2V4 with marginal stain and hole affecting a few letters, another smaller hole on 3K3, some pale marginal dampstaining, a few creases at end.) 18th-century speckled calf, gilt-ruled (some splitting to joints). Provenance : Grantham (bookplate); Thomas Philip, Earl de Grey (bookplate). A reprint of the Venice quarto edition of 1567 (see lot 359), with some corrections and additions. The title-page border of the 1584 edition (see lot 362) is used here as a division title. The dedication by de Vecchi is dated 1629 and the preface which appears under his name is the same as the one signed by Francesco de Franceschi Sanese in both the 1567 and 1584 editions. Fowler 416.
