Beschreibung:

.69 caliber, 44.5" round barrel marked on the top of barrel, 37 Va Regt Northumberland. Three barrel bands, triggerguard with finials both rear and front. Lockplate marked vertically with Miles in the rear of lockplate. Beveled pan with flat hammer, frizzen spring with finial. Top jaw screw and top jaw are replacements. Breech plug has some separation from rear barrel. One of the sideplate screws has half of the head missing. Condition: All markings are very clear and sharp. All of the metal parts are covered in a light froth of light red rust; this should clean off leaving behind some staining. Stock is untouched with a dark open-grained look. Stock has some nicks and dings with some scratches. One small piece of wood is missing from the mortise in front of the frizzen spring. There is a two-inch long crack running from the forward sidelock screw up to the barrel on a diagonal. This is an excellent example of a very rare Virginia contract musket by John Miles with Virginia markings.
