Two film rolls of Mars surface images taken by Viking 1 Orbiter. The first roll is 127 by 5 inches and contains 24 frames. The second roll is 46 by 5 inches and has four frames with three photographic calibration grids. All image frames measure 5 by 5 inches. Each frame has a stunning surface image with related data in margins plus three histogram plots showing the amount of digital processing. The Viking Program consisted of two orbiters that carried individual landing craft. They were launched in 1975 and entered Mars orbit in 1976. Both landers made successful touchdowns that same year and all vehicles operated for several years sending image and other scientific data.
