In the Chitpore Road view, the Daniells had been impressed by "the house of a native Bengal merchant" whose architectural style Thomas describes as "Mahomeddan in its ornamental parts, except in the turrett, which is an unsuccessful attempt at the Grecian, as introduced by the Portugueze" concluding that "these incongruities very frequently occur in modern Indian buildings, whose owners have intercourse with Europeans'. The "Pagoda, or Hindoo Temple, which is dedicated to Seeva [stands by a] Tank [which] is a necessary appendage to buildings of this nature, ablution being a ceremony that very often occurs in the religious duties of a Hindoo".
