Small 2°, half title, 3 engraved portraits by Faithorne, 4 engraved double-page plates and 3 double-page maps (light mainly marginal browning and occasional light staining), 20th-century red levant morocco gilt, spine decorated and lettered gilt in compartments, gilt inner dentelles, g.e. FIRST EDITION. Wing V240. Originally written for private circulation only, the commentaries were published in 1657 after William Dillingham accidentally found the manuscript.
