VERDI, GIUSEPPE. Autograph letter signed to L. Colbertini, Paris, 20 January 1855. 1 page, 8vo, on personal stationery , in Italian. Verdi writes to Colbertini recommending a friend who has to prepare an opera for La Scala during the coming season. Verdi observes that perfect execution is central to success as a composer and suggests that the addressee is the master to teach the young composer this skill. 1855 saw the first performance of Verdi's Vpres siciliennes, one of the later works considered to have a more unified dramatic presentation. At this point in his career, the composer was very much in a position to help the career of a young proteg.
