FAMOUS PANORAMA OF ROME. VASI, GIUSEPPE. Prospetto del 'Alma Cittá di Roma visto dal Monte Gianicolo. Rome 1765. Engraved panorama of Rome, 12 etchings mounted on original linen, (on six large and six smaller sheets) with silk lining. With large title cartouche and a large coat-of-arms of king Charles III of Spain in the middle, descriptive text to lower part. About 1020x2600 mm. Paper browned, creases, folds and minor losses, also to margins, minor tears, some staining and spotting, some joints with greyish discolourations or stains, probably due to glue. This work shows a panoramic view of Rome looking northeast and it extends from St. Peter's Basilica (left) to the Fonte dell'Acqua Paola (right). Vasi also portrays himself in the near left foreground. At the very bottom of the panels, he lists 390 sites and monuments using the same numbering system as he used in his guidebook published two years earlier. Provenance: The von Celsing family, Biby. Photo.
