Strassburg: Heinrich Sybold, August 1528. 149 x 100 mm., later stiff vellum, title a bit stained and with small hole to border, , some marginal staining, 2 ll. with marginal repairs . FIRST AND ONLY(?) EDITION, title within woodcut architectural border. NLM/Durling 4485. An alphabetical compendium of herbs and their medicinal properties. Most of the texts of Valla (1430-99) were discovered and printed a century later by the physician and printer Heinrich Sybold -- THEOPHRASTUS. De suffruticibus, herbisque, ac frugibus libri quatuor, Theodoro Gaza interprete. (Strassburg: Heinrich Sybold, August) [1529?]. 149 x 102 mm., modern boards, dampstaining at front . roman type, some side ntoes in Greek. Apparently the first edition to be published as a medical handbook. Sybold (fl. 1528-33) "probably developed the publication of medical manuals on his own press as an adjunct to his practice... He was instrumental in incorporating the knowledge of the Greek physicians into the standard medical corpus"(Chrisman, Lay Culture, Learned Culture 36, 174).
