Shako has the Connecticut state shield and infantry horn with the letter C for Company C. Connecticut's militia variant of the common M1851 dress cap prescribed under the state's 1856 dress regulations. New York retailer John A. Baker worked at the 162 Fulton Street address from 1853-1858. An identical Company C.. specimen is housed in the Smithsonian Institution collection. The cap is also well documented in ante-bellum photography. Condition: Very good; all leather shows some crazing and age wear.
