Lot of 15, housed in two riker mounts, with medals identified to at least two soldiers both of whom served in the Spanish-American War. First riker mount has five medals, 4 attached to a heavy cardstock insert and a fifth placed separately alongside the others. Inscription on the bottom of insert reads "C. J. Miller / Spanish War Service / 7-2-98 - 4-6-99 / from his Son Arthur J. Miller " Soldier Miller may be Private Charles J. Miller 4th New Jersey National Guard, Vol. Inf. Co. F, with service dates of 1898-1899. Medals include: Spanish-American War service medal with yellow and green ribbon, numbered on the rim "6641" reverse features patriotic eagle and shield along with serviceman's initials and service period "7-2-98 CJM 4-6-99"; a two-part Spanish-American War Service Medal with top bar inscribed "New Jersey Volunteer"; three-part Spanish War Veteran ribbon medal with obverse featuring a winged American eagle and cross (2 in this style); and a three-part Spanish War Veteran ribbon medal with obverse featuring a winged American eagle and round medallion. Second riker mount houses ten medals. One three-part Spanish War Veteran ribbon medal with obverse featuring a winged American eagle and a large round medallion has separate bar pin attached across American flag ribbon with verso of pin reading in full, "Presented to / Marshall Scudder / Post Department Commander / Dept of Wash and Alaska / USWV 1912-13." Col. Marshall Sears Scudder (1870-1931) was a descendant of Com. Oliver Hazard Perry via his mother, and served in both the Spanish-American War and WWI. During WWI Scudder served with the 361st Infantry and 23rd Infantry while overseas 7/6/18 - 8/4/19, and was wounded at the Battle of Meuse/Argonne. At least one other medal is identified to Scudder, a blue, white, and red figure eight medal with top bar inscribed "Co. E 1st Wn. Vol. Inf." and reverse of medal inscribed "Capt. M. S. Scudder." Additional medals in the second grouping may have belonged to Scudder as well, these include three Indian Wars Service medals with red and black ribbon and one with red ribbon; ribbon medal, Philippine Insurrection, 1899 with blue and red ribbon, stamped on the rim "No. 23357"; verso with "United States Army / For Service"; Spanish-American War service medal with yellow and green ribbon, reverse features patriotic eagle and shield; and two additional three-part Spanish War Veteran ribbon medals with obverse featuring a winged American eagle and a cross. Condition: Some fraying to ribbons. One Indian War Service Medal missing top bar; suspension missing on "figure 8" red, white, and blue medal.
