unused 1849 Cérès 1f. "vermillon terne" , a quite remarkable example from the upper left corner of the sheet, being a typically clear impression on slightly porous and faintly toned paper, beautiful fresh colour with 4.5mm margins at top and 5.5mm margin at left and good margins on other sides; part original gum. Typically of these stamps, this example is not without faults and has a couple of very small, repaired thins which are of a trivial nature and barely detract from what is probably the finest mint example of this world rarity and an exhibition item of the highest possible calibre.
