United China Relief was founded in 1941, ten months before Pearl Harbor, as an umbrella organization for American organizations sending medical and social welfare aid to China during its battle with the Japanese invaders. This rare handbook for local chairmen was issued in advance of the second annual “China Week”, a “major promotion, publicity and fund-raising campaign” for the organization, which would continue throughout World War II until the start of the Chinese civil war.
