A Union Village Shaker ladderback rocker in maple, having acorn finials above a five horizontal splat back, round stiles with open shaped arms, above a leather seat, rounded legs and stretcher supports; ht. 43, wd. 25, dp. 31 in. This rocker was made by Shakers at Union Village in Warren County, Ohio. It was given to Edward C. Pence (1861-1931), the last farm manager for the Union Village community. Pence and his wife, Lida (1869-1953), lived at the South Family with their daughter Leontine (1895-1971) until the community closed in 1910. These pieces, and others, descended in the family to the present day. Provenance: Descended in the family of Edward C. Pence (1861-1931), the final farm manager for the Union Village, Ohio Shaker community. Condition: Item is in good condition. Leather seat is in fair condition. Minimal surface wear throughout.
