The cases are predominantly manufactured from thermo-plastic, though a few are constructed from leather. They range in size from half-plate to sixteenth-plate. The condition of the cases is generally very sound, though a few have chips, and several have separated at the hinges. The images within range from very good to poor, and a couple of the cases appear never to have been used. The collection includes an exceptionally lovely and well preserved half-plate hand-tinted Daguerreotype portrait of a young woman, stamped in the mount "J. Gurney" and "349 Broadway;" i.e. taken at Gurney's Daguerrean Rooms.
