But then he gets run over by a train, and soon he's back on the streets ratting his tin cup — only now, he's blind, scarred, and legless: "Time heals your wounds! You go back to the work you once loved so well! You still have your tin cup... sometimes heavy, sometimes empty! But now it's all for real, and money doesn't seem to matter much anymore!" The poor sap's hangdog mug in the last panel is as good a depiction of total defeat as we've ever seen.
