VG- (3.5). Spine stress, short split to bottom spine (less than ¼"), bottom staple pulled, staple rust, some color rubs at spine and right edge, a few short tears and crease marks to right edge of front cover, soiling to back cover. Cream to off-white pages. Professionally cleaned and pressed by Comics In A Flash. Cover: Sol Brodsky? Scripts: Stan Lee, uncredited others. Art: Jerry Robinson Don Perlin, Jack Keller, Myron Fass?, Ed Winiarski, Gene Colan (spot illustration). GPAnalysis: No sales in this grade in 7 years. A 4.5 sold for $170 in July 2020. In journeyman artist Don Perlin's supremely depressing "The Tin Cup," a grifter fakes deformities in order to make big bread as a tin-cup rattling bum. At the end of a profitable day's begging, he counts his coins with glee: "Not bad for a day's work! 'Poor man' they call me... the stupid fools! I'll soon be rich!" But then he gets run over by a train, and soon he's back on the streets ratting his tin cup — only now, he's blind, scarred, and legless: "Time heals your wounds! You go back to the work you once loved so well! You still have your tin cup... sometimes heavy, sometimes empty! But now it's all for real, and money doesn't seem to matter much anymore!" The poor sap's hangdog mug in the last panel is as good a depiction of total defeat as we've ever seen. A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now.
