With original mailing envelope. Single page typed letter to fellow poet Hank Malone. The letter was written at the time Bukowski's screenplay for Barfly was in the process of being made into a film. He writes of spending time with Barbet Schroeder, the film's director, and getting him drunk at the racetrack. He writes that Schroeder is in the process of raising money for the venture, and goes on to discuss the possible casting for the film: "We have James Woods lined up for the Chinaski part. For the female, it'll be either Karen Black or Paula Prentis. Or so says Schroeder." (None of these casting choices came to be, as the lead roles were eventually played by Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway ) He goes on to complain that the original manuscript for his novel Women was edited against his desires.: " On WOMEN, I got too much "help" on the original manu. Mostly my "help" (which will remain unnamed but he sure as Christ should have known better) threw in too many adjective and adverbs, puffing up and exaggerating things." The "help" referred to is most likely John Martin of Black Sparrow Press. Bukoswki has made some minor edits to the letter in pen, and he signs off with "Buk" along with a drawing of the little man and his dog/cat.
