Title: Typed Letter Signed from Bobby Jones to sportswriter Lincoln Werden Author: Jones, Robert Tyre (Bobby), Jr. Place: Atlanta, GA Publisher: Date: February 29, 1960 Description: 1 page Typed Letter Signed "Bob" from Bobby Jones to Mr. Lincoln Werden of Manhasset, New York, dated February 29, 1960. On Robert Tyre Jones, Jr. Atlanta, GA stationery, with original mailed envelope (also Jones stationery). Lincoln Werden was a sportswriter for the New York Times in the 1950s and 1960s, and he was the first President of the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association. Bobby Jones writes to him in February 1960 regarding "the glasses." It seems they disagreed about selling them at an upcoming event, although Jones relents that Werden may still "offer them to the people at the dinner in order to help with your expenses..." and adds, "I simply did not want to have any widespread selling effort made with respect to them." Bobby Jones was the greatest amateur golfer of all time, and he also co-founded the Masters Golf Tournament held annually. This letter could very well be pertaining to some merchandise that Werden wanted to sell at the Masters. Lot Amendments Condition: Letter creased where folded, a touch of color to paper from age; near fine. Item number: 255264
