En 1889, il obtint l’autorisation d’ajouter Ryhove à son nom de famille. Il est l’aïeul commun de tous les la Kethulle actuels. Il était également artiste-peintre et participa à la constitution de la société Royale pour l’Encouragement des Beaux-arts à Gand, organisatrice d’une première exposition en 1853.
