Six years after the New Year’s celebration of the second item, when the US entered World War II, the Navy requisitioned and later purchased the property, soon to house the Naval Postgraduate School. The fireworks display of 1886, included 21 listed “illuminations”, from the “Large Union Bombshells” fired “from our largest cooper mortars to an altitude of 1,000 feet”, to the display of the scales and sword of “Justice” in “brilliant colored lance work”. The New Year’s celebration of 1936 featured entrees of Rainbow Troute Saute au Beurre and Roast Stuffed Squab Chicken followed by a dessert of Frozen Eggnog Pastry.
