TWO PHOTOGRAPH ALBUMS CAUCASUS, LATE 19TH CENTURY The smaller album containing 26 mounted prints, the majority albumen, all but no. 24 numbered consecutively, 11 inscribed in Swedish in ink below the negatives and 16 in Russian in pencil on reverse. Most photographs relate to the oil production and the Nobel family. The album starts with the views of a port and boat construction, including a tankard 'Talmud' and continues with views of Baku, including the train station and Velikoknyazheskaya Street; group portraits of the members of the Nobel and probably Rosenbröijer family; the epidemic of cholera in Baku in 1892; portraits of people in national dresses; the image of Mekka; further views of Baku; views of Khiva, including the portrait of the khan of Khiva. The larger album containing 22 mounted albumen prints, all numbered consecutively, most by A. Mishon, signed in lower right and left and stamped in Cyrillic in gold letters 'photograph A. Mishon, Baku' . The album starts with the view of Baku and continues the views of Baku oil fields and related scenes of the Baku oil company; photographs 1, 8 and 13 are about Alexander III's visit to the Nobel Oil Company in Baku in 1888; in a brown folio stamped in gilt 'ALBUM'. The larger album 9¼ x 12¾ in. (23.5 x 32.3 cm.), the largest photograph 7½ x 9½ in. (19.1 x 24.1 cm.); the smaller album 6½ x 8¾ in. (16.5 x 22.2 cm.), the largest photograph 8 5/8 x 6 1/8 in. (21.9 x 15.5 cm.) (2)
